I debated whether I should even give this story anymore attention than it deserves, but since nothing else is on my mind, let’s talk about the end of the world. First of all, do you know how many times the world has been predicted to end on a certain date? The answer is more times than I cared to count, but here’s a list of the times for you. My estimate just from skimming down the list is probably about a hundred times. Guess we’ve been pretty lucky huh.
And there are actually more predictions to be proven wrong in the next couple of years. One for 2020, 2021, 2026, and then thankfully the next one after that we at least won’t have to think about until 2060. Though I doubt there won’t be at least one other person that comes up with a prediction before then.
I’m sure most of you already know the verse in scripture where no one will know the day or the hour, so I’m not gonna go over that. My thought really is why do people feel the need to predict the end of the world? The only thing I can think is these people who make these predictions probably don’t like their lives and just wish the world would end.
And honestly, if that was a really what they felt, I could empathize with that. Most of you reading this have probably lived life long enough to experience how much the world sucks sometimes. I’ve mentioned in a previous post before that I sometimes wouldn’t mind if the world would end. Believe it or not, I’ve even prayed for it to happen before, which maybe that sounds crazy to some, but I suppose that’s just the struggle of human existence at times.
But to close on this topic, for anyone who worries about this, two things to remember. A. No person will ever know when God is going to end the world as we know it. B. Even if someone did know and it did happen, will that really be so much of a bad thing? I find it amusing when this topic comes up emotions move to hysteria and being prepared for the worst, when really, maybe it should be a time of celebration.
Peace to all those who are in Christ.
